DALYAN

Dalyan

NATURAL HABITAT OF CARETTA CARETTAS

Dalyan is a charming holiday town on the shore of the fjord-type natural channel that connects Lake Köyceğiz to the sea and was called Calbis in the Ancient Period. The threat of construction, which increased in the years when tourism started to develop rapidly, was brought under control with the declaration of the region as a Special Environmental Protection Area in 1998.

The neighborhood, which has remained a village with its naturalness intact for many years, is still far from excessive construction. But unfortunately almost nothing remains of the old buildings!

Some are in the city center, some are at the entrance of the city, with many hotels, pensions and restaurants. It is a holiday neighborhood. You come to Dalyan mostly for day trips, but you should spare at least 2-3 days to enjoy the environment to the fullest.

Dalyan got its name from the natural channels here and the fishery that has been done on these channels for centuries. The most common mullet is caught, and it can be eaten at the restaurants in the vicinity at such a reasonable price that you cannot find it anywhere else. If you want to buy mullet, you can get it from DALKO aquaculture cooperative. (On Dalyan - Iztuzu canal road) The price is also very affordable.

Apart from the Caretta Caretta turtles, the Nile turtles (Trionyx Tringulus), which are not as popular as their relatives, also live in the parts of the canal close to the lake.

The road that leads from Dalyan to the Iztuzu beach and the Dalyan mouth beach facilities does not go down to the beach at the last 1 km, and the road that leads to the hills to the left leads to the Radar (Türk Telekom) tower, which puts Dalyan underfoot. Most of the road is asphalt and winding through the pine trees leads to the mountain peaks. As you go up, the Dalyan Delta lays under your feet at every turn.

The path to the radar is stabilized. When you climb the hill where the tower is located, you will encounter an extraordinary view. On one side, all of Dalyan with its delta, canals, beach and city; Koycegiz Lake and Koycegiz in the future; farther on Mount Sandras; coves where steep slopes meet the sea to your west; A little further on, Sarigerme beach and Babaada...

Those who continue on their way arrive at Aş Bay, which is loved by blue cruise boats. This bay is ideal for picnicking and swimming in the secluded sea.
